Just in time to make sure it’s not an April Fools joke comes episode 39 of the world-famous Chasmosaurs podcast! It’s time once again to talk about that Grand Signeur of palaeoart, his Lordship John Sibbick, King of the Isle of Wight (maybe). This time, we’re looking at the lesser-known followup to the classic Normanpedia, the grandly-titled WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH!!! After that, Marc has a chat with Swiss author and historian T.K. Sivgin, who has been known to occasionally contribute to this here humble website. His charming book, The Saurus Family and the Little Trilobite, is available now. Is John Sibbick the greatest of the living palaeoartists? How has that new museum in Zürich been coming along? How angry can one dumb theropod get at a scelidosaur? How much reverb can Gemma add to one episode? And will Natee uncover their secret baritone? You won’t wanna miss this one!
In the News
- Marc attended a launch event for Palaeontology in Public, the new book edited by Chris Manias, which can be downloaded for free.
- The others did stuff too, but I can’t remember it right now. It can’t have been that important.
Vintage Dinosaur Art
WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH was written by David Norman and illustrated by John Sibbick. It was first published in 1985 by Simon & Schuster, although this edition is from 1990. Stunning artistry meets decidedly pre-Renaissance chunk-o-saurs.
Interview
We welcome Timur Sivgin to the show, author of The Saurus Family and the Manospondylus blog. He also is a speculative zoology enthusiast and the co-host of the CMTK Talk Hour podcast with C.M. Kosemen. Marc talks to him about his book, the inspirations behind it, and his contributions to the new university museum of natural history in Zürich. You can find him on Blogger and Instagram.
